NEW YORK-Standard & Poor’s Ratings Services placed its ‘B’ corporate credit rating for Rural Cellular Corp. on CreditWatch with negative implications due to what it considers “several challenges facing the company and the rural cellular industry.”
S&P cited a number of concerns including increased nationwide competition, lower roaming yield, prospective competition from roaming partners due to industry technology changes, increasing debt maturities, constrained capital markets and the potential impact of wireless number portability in its report.
