TOKYO-KDDI, the second-largest mobile operator in Japan, 17 April launched a voice search service for its au brand mobile handset users. KDDI has developed the system called “Lycos Mobile for EZ Web” for mobile users who are not accustomed to hitting small keys on mobile handsets.
Users of the service access the service via the “Lycos Mobile” site on EZ Web. EZ Web is an Internet access service provided by KDDI.
Voice search service is almost a standard function for PCs. However it is the first time that a mobile carrier has launched voice search services for content. According to KDDI, the system identifies voices even in crowds or on trains with more than a 97-percent success rate.
