Open GIS Consortium releases specs. for comment

ORLEANS, France-The Open GIS Consortium Inc. released the proposed OpenGIS Location Services Implementation Specification for public comment.

The OpenLS specification resulted from the OpenLS 1 testbed initiatives held between October 2001 and October 2002, said OGC.

“The initiatives are aimed to define and build the ‘core’ location application services and information framework necessary for interoperable use of mobile devices, services and location-related data,” said OGC.

Included in the specification are details of several interfaces, including directory services, gateway services, geocoder services, presentation services, reverse geocoder services and a routing service.

The comment period ends May 19.
