BEDMINSTER, N.J.-According to Verizon Wireless, consumers have downloaded 8.5 million applications since its Get It Now wireless data services were launched six months ago, with nearly 6 million applications downloaded in the first quarter of 2003 alone.
Get It Now’s 115 downloads include games, ring tones and entertainment applications. It is currently available on six handsets which, according to Verizon, made up more than 40 percent of all handsets sold through the carrier’s direct distribution channels during the first quarter. A total of 3.2 million Get It Now-enabled handsets have been sold and Verizon expects that number to reach 8 million by the year’s end.
