Emblaze scores streaming video trial with O2 U.K.

RA’ANANA, Israel-Streaming video company Emblaze Systems Ltd. announced it will conduct a streaming video trial with U.K. carrier MmO2.

To participate in the trial, MmO2 has selected 350 customers using the O2 Pocket PC-based xda, the Nokia 7650 and the Nokia 3650. Users will be able to view streaming video, download clips and view video messages from a WAP site managed by Emblaze. Users will have to download the company’s EMplayer to view the video.

“Mobile video is a natural addition to the range of services we already offer like Media Messaging and the O2 Games Arcade and fully exploits the technology we have available today,” said Dave McGlade, the carrier’s chief executive officer. “We want to develop a range of communications and entertainment services that our customers really want and trials like this give us the opportunity to listen to our customers and get crucial feedback.”

PacketVideo Corp. and RealNetworks Inc. are also working to offer streaming video services. PacketVideo has scored deals with Japanese giant NTT DoCoMo and for Sony Ericsson’s P800 mobile device, while RealNetworks has a deal with Nokia Corp. to include its players on high-end Nokia devices.
