Agere licenses Openwave MMS software

Openwave Systems Inc. today released software for mobile-phone makers looking to offer support for multimedia messaging services. The company also said Agere Systems has licensed the software and will sell it in China. Openwave said its new Mobile MMS Client will give users a common experience across messaging, browsing, calendar, address book and other phone applications. “The popularity of sending messages of all sorts from today’s mass market phones signifies the power of doing more than voice,” said Thomas Reardon, vice president and general manager of Openwave. “Openwave Mobile MMS Client was designed with the subscriber in mind and will enable whole new sets of easy to use services to let people communicate in efficient ways.”
