Senate confirms Hewitt Pate to be assistant attorney general for antitrust

WASHINGTON-The Senate confirmed Hewitt Pate on Friday to be the assistant attorney general for antitrust by a vote of 71-0.

Pate was formerly the deputy assistant for antitrust before being promoted when Charles James left the Department of Justice. Prior to that he was in private practice.

The Bush Justice Department antitrust division has pulled back from some of the more incendiary antitrust enforcement prevalent in the Clinton administration.
