Midwest Wireless signed a definitive agreement to acquire wireless properties from three partnerships providing wireless service in Iowa under the name Cellcom.
Midwest said the properties include wireless licenses for 17 counties in Iowa rural service areas 3, 11 and 12 serving 28,000 current Cellcom customers and covering 320,390 potential customers.
Midwest plans to deploy cdma2000 1x technology and add cell sites to enhance coverage and increase capacity in the new markets and valued the total transaction at more than $40 million.
In a separate transaction, Nsight Teleservices, which is the parent company of Cellcom, Northeast Telephone Co., NetNet and other telecommunications companies in Northeast Wisconsin, signed a definitive agreement to acquire interests in wireless licenses that Cellcom had previously managed with Metro Southwest PCS L.L.P.
The acquisition includes wireless licenses covering 14 counties in Wisconsin and three counties in Michigan with a total population of more than 1 million customers and a wireless network already constructed in the Fox Valley. Nsight said it plans to deploy 1x technology in the acquired markets.
