NEW YORK-L.M. Ericsson said it plans to outsource its information systems unit to IBM Corp., transferring 1,000 employees to the software giant. Ericsson sees the move as part of its plan to become profitable again.
Ericsson also announced that it has introduced services that will help its North American operators tackle operational efficiency, technology evolution and business growth.
“We have defined a number of services that directly address today’s specific market needs in North America by collaborating with our customers and taking advantage of our global experience and capabilities,” said the company.
The services cover migration and optimization, managed services, telecom management and service layer integration, and business and network consulting.
Meanwhile, IBM introduced a software solution called WebSphere Everyplace Connection Manager that enables secure, seamless roaming across multiple types of wireless and wired networks.
“The new software and solutions provide mobile workers with the highest level of secure access to enterprise information from the growing number of wireless hot spots being rolled out around the globe in places such as airports, truck stops and coffee shops,” said IBM.
