NEWBURY, United Kingdom-U.K. company Cognito has launched a GPRS service called BusinessPhone that encourages users to text message other employees rather than talk directly to them and includes a personal digital assistant and integrated phone. Cognito said the service allows companies to control voice-call costs by offering unlimited free text messaging and allowing companies to manage individual or group voice profiles.
For example, a maximum call duration can be placed on certain phones, calls can be limited to a specific range of numbers, and daily and weekly call limits can be applied.
The cost is $90 per user, per month, which includes the PDA and integrated phone, accessories rental, hardware maintenance, subscriber identity module card and monthly line rental.
The service also provides employees with mobile e-mail, while allowing companies to limit the range of domains with which users can communicate.
