France Telecom to trial Alvarion wireless DSL

TEL AVIV, Israel-Wireless broadband solution provider Alvarion Ltd. announced France Telecom will trial its broadband wireless DSL solution as part of an initiative to offer broadband Internet access to 95 percent of France’s population by 2005. The carrier plans to offer demonstrations of broadband wireless services to consumers this summer and to initiate trials in September.

“Cutting-edge wireless technologies, such as Alvarion’s robust solutions, will make it possible for us to bring affordable wireless DSL to new areas-areas where terrain or distance made it too expensive to deploy wireline infrastructure,” said Valerie Martin, director of France Telecom’s R&D laboratory. “This will allow us to better serve all of our customers, even those on mountaintops far from city centers.”
