Iridium authorized to operate in Iraq

ARLINGTON, Va.-Iridium Satellite L.L.C. has been authorized by Iraq’s office of the Coalition Provisional Authority, the current governing authority in the country, and the Ministry of Transportation and Communications, responsible for licensing commercial telecommunications services in the country, to provide and sell Iridium mobile satellite communications services, subscriber terminals and related equipment in Iraq.

“While Iridium has experienced great success with its Department of Defense usage within the region, we are extremely pleased to have received this authorization and to be able to provide the much-needed communications services that Iridium has to offer to the commercial sector,” said Gino Picasso, president and chief executive officer of Iridium.
