Microsoft: Internet worm won’t affect wireless

An Internet worm that attacked enterprise and home computers this week, exploiting a flaw in Microsoft Corp.’s Windows operating system, cannot affect devices running the company’s Windows CE operating system, Microsoft said.

The MSBlast Internet worm has affected more than 330,000 computers so far, according to virus company Symantec. The worm manipulates a vulnerability in part of the Windows Remote Procedure Call Distributed Component Object Model. Problems arise in Microsoft’s Windows XP, Windows NT, Windows 2000 and Windows Server 2003.

However, Microsoft said, Windows CE does not include the PRC system, thus the worm can’t affect the operating system. Microsoft’s Windows CE platform forms the basis for its Pocket PC operating system for personal digital assistants and Smartphone OS for smart phones.
