Visto acquires Jarna messaging technology

Wireless enterprise company Visto Corp. announced another financial transaction, this time the acquisition of the intellectual property and technology assets of wireless e-mail company Jarna Corp. of Menlo Park, Calif. Financial details of the transaction were not disclosed.

Visto said it will gain Jarna’s Mobile Messaging Suite, which allows users to wirelessly access information in Novell GroupWise, LDAP and other corporate groupware systems using BlackBerrys, Palm devices, Handspring devices, Pocket PC personal digital assistants and Java-capable phones.

Already this year Visto closed $50 million in new financing and announced a major merger with fellow wireless e-mail company ViAir. The company currently offers an array of wireless corporate access products and counts AT&T Wireless, Bell Mobility, KPN, Manitoba Telecom Services, Nextel Communications Inc., GE, Xerox and others as customers.

“The Jarna acquisition is another step in Visto’s strategy to establish market leadership through unique product vision and a proven ability to execute,” said Brian Bogosian, Visto’s chairman, president and chief executive officer. “Customers will begin to see the output from the Jarna acquisition in early 2004 through a series of significant solution enhancements from us, including expanded corporate data and device support.”
