ISSY-LES-MOULINEAUX, France-Wireless technology company Wavecom SA announced it will open a research laboratory for the world’s handset makers, a development studio that the company said will include all the latest handset technologies.
The lab, which is essentially a computerized testing environment and not an actual location, will be commercially available early next year.
“Handset makers currently see great new market opportunities, but they are also under real pressure to bring full-feature quality products to market before the market moves on,” said Guy Lanrezac, Wavecom’s marketing director for handset applications. “Our Feature Phones Development Lab has been designed to help them face that challenge, and we look forward to accompanying our customers in their efforts to beat the competition in this very exciting market.”
Wavecom said the lab will feature video streaming; FM radio; MP3 player and MPEG 4 features; USB, IrDA and SyncML; messaging features such as EMS, MMS and e-mail; and Internet connectivity using WAP 2.0 and xHTML browsers.
Wavecom also said it will offer Java technology through a new deal with Java company Esmertec AG.
