Motorola’s Symbian share transfer to Nokia, Psion complete

HELSINKI, Finland-Nokia Corp. said it completed its deal to purchase Motorola Inc.’s Symbian shares-a 13.2-percent stake-and Psion plc purchased the remaining shares-5.8 percent. The deal was first announced in August, but was subject to a pre-emption process among the other Symbian shareholders and clearance by the German Federal Cartel Office.

Nokia said the cartel office clearance is complete, and no other shareholder used the pre-emption rights.

Nokia now owns 32.2 percent of Symbian, and Psion increased its Symbian ownership to about 31 percent. Nokia said the transfer does not affect Motorola’s existing licensing arrangement with Symbian.

The transaction values Symbian at about $470 million.
