LONDON-Emerging wireless technologies are threatening to change the economics and competitive dynamics of the wireless data market, according to a new report form Sound Partners and Analysys Research.
According to the report, emerging technologies are set to have an even greater impact on the market than 802.11b has had so far. Some of these emerging technologies include:
- 3G variants like W-CDMA FDD, EDGE, CDMA2000 1x, TD-SCDMA, W-CDMA TDD and other enhancements like HSDPA, and CDMA2000 1x EV-DO and EV-DV;
- Fixed and mobile broadband wireless access standards like 802.16a (WiMAX) and IEEE 802.20, along with standards from companies including ArrayComm, Flarion and Navini;
- Wireless local area network access standards, including IEEE 802.11b and 802.11g, solutions from companies like Vivato and short-range standards like Bluetooth and UWB;
- Underlying technologies, including voice and video coding, data compression, advanced modulation and access techniques like OFDM, smart antennas and terminal developments.
