SUNNYVALE, Calif.-MontaVista’s Linux consumer electronic edition will support Renesas Technology Corp.’s multimedia application processor for mobile phones, according to both Renesas and MontaVista Software Inc.
The product is known as SH-Mobile platform.
“The mobile-phone market has been rapidly gravitating toward Linux away from proprietary platforms in key markets worldwide. This is especially true in Japan and China, two of the largest and fastest growing markets for mobile devices,” said Ikuya Kawasaki, a department manager of system of chip design at Renesas. “With this partnership, MontaVista and Renesas will leverage their individual strengths to enable the development of sophisticated application platforms for mobile phones.”
