Shosteck: UMTS increases data profitability

WHEATON, Md.-UMTS technology increases data profitability, according to new analysis from the Shosteck Group. According to Shosteck, UMTS is among the most profitable of services because it maximizes AMPU (average margin per user) rather than ARPU (average revenue per user).

“UMTS increases the sweet spot in two ways,” explained Herschel Shosteck, president and chairman of the research firm. “First, UMTS lowers the cost of delivery, enabling operators to charge less. Second, UMTS enables improved services-higher image resolution, faster delivery, larger and more functional applications, and better quality of service-critical to the success of data offerings. Improved services at lower charges mean that more people will use them and do so more often.”
