Virgin Mobile U.K. reports 500,000 Q4 adds

LONDON-Virgin Mobile U.K., a mobile virtual network operator, said it added more than half a million new customers in the fourth quarter of 2003. The quarter’s 506,448 new clients, a 37-percent rise over quarter-fourth 2002 figures, brings the company’s subscriber figures to more than 3.6 million.

The company cited several marketing and pricing campaigns for the strong growth. They included 5-cent texts between Virgin customers; $9 airtime vouchers, a lower amount than rivals offer; its Glue program, which rewards customers with $18 in airtime for every person they connect; and Flash it, which offers nearly $2 of free airtime for every $18 customers spend in Virgin Megastores.

The MVNO did not offer other industry or financial metrics, such as revenues, profits or churn rates.
