SFR plans UMTS launch

PARIS-French mobile operator SFR said it plans to launch its third-generation UMTS service to corporate customers in May and to the public in June.

The initial launch will be to several thousand corporate clients in Paris, Lyon and Lille, according to a statement from the company. A month later, the service will be extended to Nantes and Toulouse and then to other cities throughout the year.

SFR also plans to continue to extend coverage on its current GSM network. The carrier plans to sell dual-network handset that work on both networks.
