CANNES, France-Spatial Wireless unveiled Spatial Atrium, a distributed mobile switch that supports both GSM and UMTS, at this week’s 3GSM World Congress. According to the company, the enhanced solution is ideal for carriers upgrading existing GSM infrastructure or deploying greenfield UMTS cell sites.
“Spatial Wireless has an established track record of delivering the benefits of distributed mobile switching to GSM mobile carriers, and we have now enhanced the product to simultaneously support GSM and UMTS,” said Seshu Madhavapeddy, co-founder and vice president of product management at Spatial. “Carriers are looking to hedge their bets on the timing and flavor of UMTS deployments. Spatial Atrium is the only solution that ensures the mobile carriers are not making a stranded infrastructure investment.”
