ATLANTA-Cingular Wireless L.L.C. announced it will sell two new BlackBerry wireless e-mail devices for its GSM/GPRS network, devices that bolster Cingular’s longtime support of Research In Motion Ltd.’s products.
Cingular said it would sell the monochrome BlackBerry 6280 for $250 and the color-screen BlackBerry 7280 for $300. The carrier’s data rate plans start as low as $30 per month for 3 MB of data. RIM’s BlackBerrys offer wireless access to corporate e-mail and information.
The devices are notable as Cingular has long been selling data-only BlackBerrys over its Mobitex slower-speed wireless data network. Although some have predicted Cingular will work to transition away from its Mobitex network, RIM executives recently confirmed to RCR Wireless News that the company plans to build additional Mobitex devices for Cingular.
