CANNES, France-Some wireless players around the world have come together to form the UMTS TDD Alliance to share information, set requirements for future solutions and foster market growth based on the UMTS TDD standard.
The founding members identified operators’ demand for technical and marketing insights as one of the drivers for forming the alliance.
Some of the operators in the alliance are Airdata in Germany, AtlasOne in Malaysia, IPMobile in Japan, IQ Networks in Australia and Sentech in South Africa. Vendors include Andrew Corp., InCode Telecom, IPWireless, Samsung Electronics and UTStarcom.
“As GSM was a revolution for voice services, we believe that TDD is the revolution for broadband data service,” said Christian Irmler, chief technology officer for Airdata.
