ISC to manufacture paging products

ATLANTA-Glenayre Technologies Inc. announced ISC Technologies Inc. will take over the manufacturing and distribution of Glenayre’s discontinued paging infrastructure business, including its switch, RF and control products. The deal comes shortly after the formation of GTES L.L.C.-a joint venture between paging and messaging carrier Metrocall Holdings Inc. and former Glenayre paging executives-to provide paging software products.

Glenayre said it will not receive licensing fees from its deal with ISC.

“With these agreements in place, and with the recently announced GTES L.L.C. licensing agreement, Glenayre has demonstrated its commitment to fulfilling contractual support obligations with the customers of its discontinued paging operations,” said Clarke Bailey, Glenayre’s chairman and chief executive officer. “ISC will manufacture and provide repair support for the paging hardware and GTES will support the software-related products.”

Glenayre announced it would exit the paging infrastructure business in May 2001, but promised to continue to support its paging customers.

Metrocall and Glenayre’s former paging executives formed GTES in February. GTES will support paging carriers as an authorized licensee of paging infrastructure technology owned by Glenayre Electronics Inc. GTES will offer product sales, maintenance services, software development and product development.

“The formation of GTES provides the paging industry with access to licensed technology for the software elements of paging infrastructure and creates a new organization committed to the long-term support of wireless network technologies,” said Vince Kelly, Metrocall’s president and CEO. “We have a progressive outlook on this opportunity and believe it will satisfy short and long-term network software requirements consistent with profitable operations.”
