DALLAS-Sun Microsystems Inc. this week officially opened its Dallas-based RFID Test Center and launched a new Radio Frequency Identification solution.
The test center simulates a warehouse environment to test RFID equipment from Sun and its partners, which include Alien Technology Ltd., Applied Wireless Identification Group Inc., Nortel Networks, Provia, SAMSys Technologies Inc. and Texas Instruments, among others. The center will also help companies test the integration of RFID data with back-end systems.
“Our goal with this test center is to provide customers with access to the technology and the systems needed to test their RFID implementation and to reduce the time and overall cost required for customers to meet these mandates,” explained Larry Singer, senior vice president of global markets and strategies at Sun.
Separately, Sun’s new RFID solution, launched jointly with Capgemini, was developed to help suppliers comply with RFID mandates issued by retailers like Wal-Mart, Target and Albertsons. “Our co-developed solution is part of an ongoing effort to deliver the most secure, RFID solutions to the market,” said Julie Sarbacker, director of the Auto-ID business unit at Sun. “We understand the pain points in the transition process for retailers and distributors, and we’re designing end-to-end solutions with our partners to reduce the complexity and costs from the equation.”
