Lucent Technologies Inc. said it has won a $150 million contract to provide U.S. Cellular with CDMA2000 equipment, software and professional services in the Chicago market. Lucent said it will upgrade its existing base stations on the network with CDMA2000 1x channel cards and software and provide new Flexent modular cell base stations.

AT&T Wireless Services Inc. launched Yahoo! Inc.’s Mobile Photos service, allowing the carrier’s mMode customers to view and share pictures in their Yahoo! Photos account from their wireless devices. The downloadable Java-based application, which costs $3 per month, also allows customers to save images on their handsets and create personalized albums and slide shows that can be accessed without connecting to the Internet.

Wireless enterprise vendor Good Technology announced its customer base now totals more than 2,000. Good sells devices and software to allow business users to remotely connect to corporate applications and information. The company said its GoodLink service costs $330 per subscriber per year.

Handset maker LG Electronics Co. Ltd. announced it will use over-the-air updating technology from Bitfone Corp. in its mobile phones. LG said it will sell its first OTA-capable mobile phones in the second half of this year. The service allows handset makers and carriers to remotely fix phone software glitches and even introduce new software and applications. Bitfone has also signed deals with Motorola Inc. and Sony Ericsson Mobile Communications L.P. Siemens AG said it will use OTA technology from Red Bend.

Defywire Inc. announced systems integration firm AnviCom Inc. as a customer and partner for the Defywire Mobility Suite. AnviCom, which serves the government sector, has begun developing mobile applications for its employees on the Defywire platform using mobile phones and personal digital assistants and is working to develop tailored applications for its government customers as well.
