HELSINKI, Finland-Following two third-generation contract announcements yesterday, Nokia Corp. said it will supply another 3G network in Poland. Polkomtel S.A. has selected Nokia to supply and deploy the initial phase of its 3G network and to expand its existing GSM/EDGE infrastructure.
The value of the contract was not disclosed.
Nokia said the EDGE deliveries have already begun, and the 3G deliveries will begin this month.
“Poland is ready for 3G, and we’re ensuring that we’re ready to deliver it,” said Polkomtel Chief Technology Officer Thomas Eberle.
In addition, Nokia said it won a contract to supply mobile switching centers for Thai wireless carrier DTAC’s GSM/GPRS/EDGE 1800 MHz core network. The Finnish vendor will upgrade the operator’s entire network to the i-series MSCs and provide planning, installation, commissioning and integration services.
