SCHAUMBURG, Ill.-Motorola Inc. has put its semiconductor business on track to become a separate, publicly owned company by announcing its chairman and chief executive officer.
Michel Mayer is the new helmsman at Freescale Semiconductor. He was most recently the general manager of IBM Microelectronics, which develops and markets customized chip products and services. He worked for 20 years at IBM.
“After an extensive global search, we believe that Michel Mayer has a unique combination of operational experience, leadership skills, customer focus and technical expertise to make him the ideal choice to lead Freescale Semiconductor as an independent entity,” said Ed Zander, chairman and chief executive officer of Motorola.
Freescale is expected to become independent later this year, according to Motorola. It has made a flurry of product announcement under the new company name.
