TI's Carney to lead Wi-Fi Alliance

AUSTIN, Texas-The Wi-Fi Alliance announced Bill Carney, senior director of strategic marketing and business development for Texas Instruments’ Wireless Networking Business Unit, has been elected as its new chairman.

Carney, who has served as vice chair of the group since 2003, succeeds Dennis Eaton of Conexant in the chairman position. Eaton will stay with the alliance as a board member.

Other members of the board of directors for 2004 include Vice Chair/Secretary Paul Meche of Nokia, Marketing Chair Jayne Stancavage of Intel, Regulatory Chair Liam Quinn of Dell, and Technical Chair Sarosh Vesuna of Symbol. Board members, in addition to Eaton, include Larry Rigge of Agere, Andrew Myles of Cisco, Amer Hassan of Microsoft, Stuart Kerry of Philips and Ko Togashi of Sony.
