MURRAY HILL, N.J.-Lucent Technologies Inc. showed its prowess in two third-generation technologies through two contract announcements, one for CDMA2000 1x EV-DO and the other for UMTS equipment.
In its DO announcement, Lucent said Bermuda Digital Communications will deploy its solution by upgrading its CDMA2000 1X base stations with hardware and software. The carrier said the contract, signed with Lucent Partner Commnet Supply, will allow the “network . to provide services at speeds that rival the fastest wireline connections to BDC customers.”
In the UMTS deal, carrier 3 Hong Kong launched Lucent’s Merlin U530 UMTS wireless data card. Novatel Wireless jointly developed the card. 3HK also said it is teaming with Cisco Systems Inc. and Hewlett Packard to offer a 3G-integrated and virtual private network-enabled notebook computer solution for mobile professionals.
“The faster-speed, the bigger bandwidth, the greater mobility and the higher security bring our customers higher productivity and performance,” said Agnes Nardi, managing director of 3HK on the combined deal with the three companies.
