Colubris, ARRIS enter Wi-Fi, cable deal

ORLANDO, Fla.-Wi-Fi is not for the traditional wireless service provider alone, as evidenced by a new partnership between wireless local area network access solution provider Colubris Networks and broadband local access network solution provider ARRIS TeleWire Supply.

The companies announced a sales, marketing and support agreement that will allow cable MSOs, along with other broadband providers, to drive enterprise and hot-spot service revenues via an extension of their existing networks.

“A key motivator for cable MSOs is to leverage existing infrastructure to drive new revenue services,” said Bob Puccini, president of ARRIS TeleWire Supply. “Wi-Fi-enabled hot spots and business services are a natural extension of these networks, offering a solution that requires minimal time and investment to generate new commercial service revenues.”

Time Warner Cable-Houston has deployed the joint solution for its Road Runner Speed Zones, which offer wireless Internet access to subscribers and venue owners. “The Colubris WLAN solution enables a compelling business case,” said Chuck Sweeney, vice president of business broadband services for the cable MSO. “It provides a cost-effective and easy-to-deploy extension of Time Warner Cable network services to small and large venues, including shopping malls, hotels and healthcare facilities.”
