STOCKHOLM, Sweden-Vodafone Sweden launched multimedia consumer services via its UMTS-based network in Sweden along with promotional rate plans that include up to 120 free minutes of video calls each month to all networks in the country. The carrier originally launched its next-generation network in February to its corporate customers using the Vodafone Mobile Connect 3G data card.
The consumer service will be based on the Vodafone Live! wireless data offering and will be customized for a pair of handsets, including the Samsung Z105 and SonyEricsson Z1010, which operate on both Vodafone’s UMTS and GSM network. Following the promotional free video calling minutes, Vodafone said customers would be charged the same price as their current voice calling plans for video calls.
“We are initially and primarily targeting our customers who have shown considerable interest in joining Vodafone Live! with 3G,” said Paul Moonga, director of consumer marketing for Vodafone Sweden. “It is natural to offer an introductory price for our new service video calls. Later this year we will offer more 3G mobiles and an even broader range of services adapted to our 3G network.”
Vodafone Sweden added that it has 3G roaming agreements with seven countries and plans additional roaming agreements later this summer.
