Wireless consumers will soon have more sports-oriented content available through two new deals announced today.
Fans of the 2004 Olympic Games will be able to access news updates, photos and other features thanks to an agreement between the Associated Press and Acotel Group Partners. The new services will include short message service and pay-per-download, and will be available to subscribers of most major U.S. carriers, including AT&T Wireless Services Inc., Cingular Wireless L.L.C., Nextel Communications Inc., Sprint PCS, T-Mobile USA and Verizon Wireless.
The service will be available for all 17 days of the Olympics, which opens in Athens August 13. Rome-based Acotel will provide wireless services and will also offer a selection of Olympic-themed offerings, including anthem ring tones, sports wallpaper and games.
In addition, THQ Wireless announced licensing deals with Major League Baseball Advanced Media and the Major League Baseball Players’ Association. Under the agreements, THQ will develop officially licensed baseball-themed applications, including games, ring tones and graphics for wireless devices.
“Now, Major League Baseball enthusiasts can use their wireless handsets to experience the thrill of the game outside the ballpark,” said THQ Wireless President Tim Walsh.
