CALGARY, Canada-Wi-LAN Inc. said it has written a letter to assure the IEEE Standards Association that it plans to grant a license for the patents and patent applications it recently acquired from Ensemble Communications Inc.
The patents cover the 802.16 WiMax standard.
“The acquisition of the Ensemble patent portfolio has strengthened our position within the 802.16 standard,” said Hatim Zaghloul, executive chairman of Wi-LAN.
