LONDON-T-Mobile U.K. Monday launched third-generation service, combining its wide-area 3G network with its Wi-Fi HotSpot services.
The carrier’s 3G offering provides unlimited use of both 3G data cards and Wi-Fi access for $369 plus a monthly fee of $130. The package includes unlimited data access regardless of whether access is on T-Mobile’s 3G, GPRS or Wi-Fi networks. For a limited period, the service is free for the first three months.
Aimed at business travelers, T-Mobile said the 3G data cards offer speeds of up to 128 kilobits per second, which will progressively increase to 384 kbps in the coming months. With the card, customers can have seamless roaming between GPRS and 3G, depending on the coverage available.
T-Mobile U.K.’s Wi-Fi service is now available at more than 500 locations in the country and offers broadband internet access and services at speeds of over 1 megabit per second. T-Mobile said it plans a “very considerable” increase in the rollout of its Wi-Fi HotSpots throughout the United Kingdom.
“Together with the full broadband speeds and capabilities of our unique Wi-Fi service, which provides users with a similar experience to being connected in the office, T-Mobile is truly starting to put the internet in your pocket and enable you to take your office with you on the move,” said Brian McBride, managing director of T-Mobile U.K.
