TI triples profit in 2Q results

DALLAS-Texas Instruments Inc. unveiled a second-quarter profit that tripled last year’s figures, owing to strong demand for wireless handsets and its semiconductor products.

TI roared to a $441 million, or 25 cents a share, profit as against $121 million, or 7 cents a share, last year. Its sales rose 64 percent.

“Revenue growth was excellent,” said Richard Templeton, chief executive of the company. “Semiconductor revenue in the second quarter was higher than it has ever been.”
