LITTLE ROCK, Ark.-Another wireless carrier is hoping to throw a lifeline to singles stuck on a disastrous date.
Cingular Wireless launched “Escape-A-Date” Tuesday, allowing users to schedule a “rescue” phone call during potentially bad dates. The service uses one of eight randomly generated scripts-such as a roommate being locked out of the house-then tells users to repeat the script, giving luckless dates an excuse to call it a night.
The service, which is similar to Virgin Mobile USA’s “Rescue Ring,” was added to Cingular’s Voice Connect service, which is available for $4.99 a month. Other new Voice Connect offerings include a wake-up call, daily jokes and trivia questions.
