COPENHAGEN, Denmark-TDC, a Danish telecom carrier, said it will launch a mobile virtual network operator service in the United Kingdom in cooperation with U.K. company EasyGroup. The U.K. service will launch under the “easy” brand in the third quarter and is eventually planned for up to 12 European countries.
Financial terms of the agreement between TDC and EasyGroup were not disclosed.
“The preparations, which include the finalization of an agreement with one or more mobile networks operators, have not been completed yet,” said TDC. “Based on the experiences from Great Britain, TDC will consider launching in one or more of the remaining countries covered by the agreement.”
In addition to owning a mobile license in Denmark and being the largest wireless carrier in the country, TDC owns Telmore, a Danish MVNO, which has been successful.
European consultancy Strand Consult said the prerequisites for EasyMobile’s success are in place for most of the European countries where it plans to launch service. “The question is more how operators in the different countries will react to EasyMobile and the aggressive marketing and prices that they-without a doubt-will unveil,” Strand Consult said.
There are several MVNO services in the United Kingdom, including services run by Virgin Mobile U.K. and retailer Tessco, in addition to five licensed wireless carriers.
