BOSTON-The number of downloadable games will grow six-fold during the next five years, generating 82 percent of an expected $8 billion mobile gaming market, according to a new report from Strategy Analytics.
The report, “Carrier Retail Channels Control $8 Billion Mobile Game Opportunity,” indicates a drastic increase in the number of Java- and BREW-capable handsets will largely be responsible for the uptake in gaming. And recent successful funding rounds will allow game developers to aggressively pursue the market, the report said.
“Confidence in the sector is beginning to increase significantly,” said senior analyst Nitesh Patel. “The past four months (have) seen a flow of private finance into the coffers of leading mobile games distributors, the likes of which (have) not been seen since the halcyon days of the late 1990s.”
