SPOKANE, Wash.-Itronix Corp. this weekreleased the GoBook III rugged wireless laptop computer.
“Our focus has not changed,” said Matt Gerber, senior vice president of global marketing for Itronix, of the company’s mission to supply durable, wireless computers to mobile workforces, from soldiers to first responders to telephone company technicians.
The new computer is based on Intel’s Centrino mobile technology. It includes integrated high-performance global positioning system, support for up to three wireless networks including 802.11b/g, Bluetooth and CDMA/1xRTT and GPRS/EDGE. The device also has an optional integrated smart-card reader and an optional integrated fingerprint scanner for added security. GoBook III also includes ATI’s Radeon Mobility video engine that allows for advanced software applications like graphics manipulation.
In all, the GoBook III offers a 30-percent increase in processing power, a 30-percent increase in battery life and 300- to 400-percent increased video performance over the GoBook II.
“We are right on the cutting edge,” said Gerber of the device’s capabilities, noting that Itronix has spent the past year shortening its development cycles so it could launch a rugged wireless computer that was technologically on par with other mobile solutions.
Itronix has already placed “millions of dollars worth of orders,” for the product, which will begin shipping in October, according to Gerber.
The new notebook will sell for $4,500.
