Both Nokia Corp. and Siemens AG announced beyond-the-ordinary handsets, with Nokia’s phones offering unusual designs and Siemens’ handset providing a unique service.
Capitalizing on mobile-phone users’ penchant for style, Nokia unveiled three new camera phones at a fashion event in Shanghai, China.
The Nokia 7280, Nokia 7270 and Nokia 7260 blend “old-world art-deco styling with an edgy, modern day twist,” according to the company.
The 7280, which features keyless dial technology instead of a traditional keypad, has leather and mirror accents and includes a camera, strap and carrying pouch. It also features the Nokia Collector, which allows users to transfer content including photos, ring tones and videos between the device and a computer.
The clamshell-style 7270 also comes with a carrying strap and pouch, as well as textile wraps. In addition to a camera, the phone has an FM radio, games and a converter application for converting clothing or shoe sizes.
The 7260 is a tri-band camera phone also offered with accessories, including straps and carrying pouches.
Separately, Siemens AG’s Information and Communication Mobile group unveiled the CX70 EMOTY handset that allows users to communicate emotions via three-dimensional animated characters.
The phone, to become available in the fourth quarter in Europe and Asia Pacific, also includes a camera and video, multimedia messaging service, e-mail, instant messaging and push-to-talk capabilities. New animated characters and themes can be downloaded onto the phone, and users can access a photo editor to make changes to photo messages.
