Wi-Fi Alliance certifies WMM standard

AUSTIN, Texas-The Wi-Fi Alliance said it has certified the Wi-Fi-multimedia standard, otherwise known as WMM, for networking in consumer electronic devices such as DVD players and televisions.

The standard is also referred to as QoS for quality of service.

“The Wi-Fi Alliance has taken this step due to strong industry demand and pending availability of products offering multimedia applications,” said the alliance. “With this move, consumer electronic product manufacturers can now plan to include Wi-Fi with WMM support in their product plans, backed by the assurance of certified interoperability from the Wi-Fi Alliance.”

This certification follows that of 802.11i for security.
