Sprint PCS content speaks up with Audible deal

OVERLAND PARK, Kan.-Sprint PCS will team with Audible Inc. to offer spoken audio content to the carrier’s Vision subscribers.

Audible, an Internet-based source of audio content, will provide audio editions of newspapers and magazines, educational programming and other products to Sprint users with Smart Devices such as Samsung’s SP-i600. More than 50,000 hours of content will be available through the service.

The announcement marks Audible’s first deal with a major wireless carrier.

“A key element of Audible’s growth strategy has been to offer premium audio content to consumers on the go by striking device and marketing partnerships to leverage the latest device and network technologies offered by Sprint,” said Donald R. Katz, Audible’s president and chief executive officer. “We look forward to welcoming many new Sprint-Audible customers going forward and to evolving our partnership to leverage the latest device and network technologies offered by Sprint.”
