SAN DIEGO-Qualcomm Inc. has entered into a deal with Microsoft Corp. to allow Windows streaming capabilities in wireless devices.
Through the deal, consumers will be able to play back and stream Windows Media Audio and Windows Media Video content on handhelds that have Qualcomm’s Qtv solution. Devices will begin to carry this capability in the first quarter of 2005. The companies believe this capability will provide operators with new revenue streams and rich media content.
“This agreement also encourages developers to deliver more powerful multimedia applications, driving continued market acceptance for wireless streaming audio and video content and providing consumers new digital entertainment experiences,” said Verizon Wireless’ John Stratton.
