OSLO, Norway—Norwegian wireless carrier Telenor said it will have its EDGE upgrade in place by end-2005. The carrier decided to upgrade to EDGE technology earlier this year.
“The upgrade has now reached a state where we feel that we can give our customers a sample of what the coming 3G services have to offer,” said Morten Karlsen Sorby, executive vice president. “Customers will find that it will be quicker to use their mobiles for other than just talking and sending text messages.”
The network is fully or partly upgraded in most major cities, and the country’s 35 largest cities and towns will soon have EDGE access, the carrier said.
EDGE will be launched in connection with Telenor’s UMTS network, which is set for launch later this year, Sorby added.
