MIAMI-Wireless prepaid provider TracFone Wireless Inc. said it will begin offering its customers extended warranty protection for handsets through an agreement with Asurion. The insurance will cost a one-time fee of $20 for a one-year extension on top of the manufacturer’s standard one-year warranty and will be available to all current TracFone customers within their original warranty periods.
“We wanted to provide our customers with the option of extending their warranty, and by partnering with Asurion we now have a value-added protection plan that gives our customers added peace of mind and convenience,” said Kevin Gulbranson, senior vice president of product management for TracFone.
Asurion provides similar warranty services to Alltel Corp., AT&T Wireless Services Inc., Cingular Wireless L.L.C., Leap Wireless International Inc., Verizon Wireless, T-Mobile USA Inc. and Canadian operator Bell Mobility.
