Nokia to expand Indian network

ESPOO, Finland-Nokia Corp. said it will expand the GSM/EDGE and GPRS networks for India’s Bharat Sanchar Nigam Ltd. under a $246 million contract. Under the agreement, Nokia will deploy 4 million lines across northern cities, towns, villages and major state and national highways.

In addition to infrastructure and messaging systems, Nokia 5140 handsets are included in the contract.
