SAN DIEGO-Qualcomm Inc. said it has introduced two products that will increase the capacity and reduce the cost of simultaneously delivering video, audio and other content to large numbers of users.
The first product is the Platinum Multicast for CDMA 2000 1x EV-DO and FLO for CDMA2000 and W-CDMA. Both of the products leverage the OFDM waveform, said the CDMA proprietor.
The Platinum Multicast uses one time slot at all cells within a region, according to Qualcomm.
FLO complements CDMA and W-CDMA cellular networks.
“EV-DO Platinum and FLO technology innovations will augment existing unicast networks to much more cost effectively enable the most desirable multimedia applications-including real-time, high-quality video,” said Paul Jacobs, executive vice president and president of Qualcomm wireless and Internet group.
