Verizon launches iobi service in NYC

NEW YORK-Verizon Communications Inc. launched its iobi Home service in New York City allowing Verizon residential customers to control home phone calls, home voice mail, call lists, directories and calendars from any Web-enabled personal computer or by telephone using a voice-recognition portal.

Verizon also said the service includes e-mail and short message service capabilities allowing users to send messages to wireless handsets or be notified using an SMS that they have a new call or voice mail on their home service.

The service, which was launched last month in Maine, Massachusetts, New Hampshire, Rhode Island and Vermont, is available for $8 per month and is compatible with both dial-up and broadband connections.
